In an interview with EBC, state media, Ethiopia’s Minister For Finance, Ahmed Shide, highlighted why programs intended to improve macro-economic performance over the past five years did not yield as much result as it was intended.
While coronavirus and the Ukraine war are among the factors he cited as an explanation, he seems to have placed emphasis on war in Ethiopia. He said it broadened deficit financing and enhanced borrowing from the National Bank and impacted foreign currency.
However, Ahmed Shide is making claims that there were good performances across many sectors including in the shipping line and Ethio-Djibouti railway.
