ADDIS ABABA – (BORKENA) – An agreement reached between the Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs and Council of Tigray Region Islamic Affairs to continue a relationship that had been broken for years, sources said.
Following the official apology submitted by the Council of Islamic Affairs of Tigray Region, the relationship with the federal supreme council due to the terrible and bloody war would be restored, Tikvah-Ethiopia reported.
Following the war in Tigray, the Council of Islamic Affairs of Tigray Region officially announced that it was re-established independently by detaching itself from the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia in 2018.
After the cessation of hostilities in accordance with the Pretoria Agreement, the Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs and the Council of Tigray Region have been trying to restore relations on Islamic affairs, but they have failed.
On January 25, 2024, the Council of Islamic Affairs of Tigray held an emergency meeting in Mekelle City.
Due to the terrible war that erupted between forces of TPLF and the Federal Government in Tigray, the Orthodox religious fathers of the Tigray Region separated from the Federal Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and established their independent dioses, named “Menbere Selama”.
