ADDIS ABABA – December 23, 2023 (BORKENA) – Leaders of the House of People’s Representatives drawn from various standing committees of the Parliament said that Ethiopia “has options to prove its ownership of the sea gate”. The MPs said this while discussing the Ethiopian and regional security and political issues with European Union parliamentarians.
Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) reported here that Parliament Members of the European Union have asked for an explanation regarding the human rights management, security problem, federal system, demand for sea gate, foreign policy and women’s rights protection in Ethiopia.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives, Dima Negwo (Dr.) has said that work is being done to bring about a lasting solution to the security problem in Ethiopia.
Dima elaborated that a national consultation commission has been set up [by the government] and put into operation to facilitate consensus on major national issues and to establish lasting peace and stability in the country.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives also briefed the Parliament Members of the EU that great efforts are being exerted to make the demand for the ownership of the sea gate on peaceful and diplomatic means and on the basis of mutual benefit.
Mentioning that there are many options that enable Ethiopia to assure its ownership of the sea gate, Dima asserted that Ethiopia’s foreign policy does not support interference of any other sovereign countries.
FBC said, quoting information obtained from the House of People’s Representatives that it is in Ethiopia’s interest if the ongoing wars between Russia and Ukraine and the Gaza Strip are resolved peacefully.
The Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Health, Social Development, Culture and Sports of the House of People’s Representatives, Keiredin Tezera (Dr.) said that the House is travelling to different parts of the country to find ways in the prevention of human rights violations perpetrated against citizens and to monitor and establish means to control them without government intervention.
