Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration launched a new military offensive this week, approaching the Amhara region of Ethiopia from four different directions.
Anchor Media, based in the United States, reported that the objective of this fresh offensive is to “eliminate Fano combatants” in the region by October 11.
Why October 11? According to the source, it is because the Ethiopian Prime Minister is expected to make his first appearance in the Ethiopian Parliament since his government imposed a state of emergency in the Amhara region.
It is believed that a complete victory is necessary for him to present during his parliament appearance – according to the source. However, this information has not been confirmed by other sources.
This week, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula held a meeting with military commanders who were tasked with implementing the offensive plan.
Fano combatants are reportedly aware of the new offensive and have indicated their intent to respond to it.
