There has been speculation that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration is determined to hand over Wolkait and Raya areas of Ethiopia to the TPLF following a new political alliance between the former’s government and the TPLF group.
Confirmation of it is emerging – and it is from a government authority. Dr. Abraham Belay, Minister for Defense, who also used to be a member of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), on Tuesday said the government will give what he called “Western and Southern Tigray” – a reference to Wolkait and Raya areas that are currently under Amhara region administration – “will be restored to Status quo ante.”
Historically, Wolkait and Raya were incorporated into the Tigray region after the TPLF took power in 1991. And there has been resistance to it throughout TPLF’s 27 years of rule for which thousands are said to have paid in life due to ruthless response from the TPLF.
Government structures currently in place in Wolkait and Raya are to be replaced by structures that are chosen by the people of Tigray, according to the Minister.
The Minister said so in his social media message ( It is available HERE) he wrote on the occasion of “Ashenda” celebration. He added that questions related to the territories will be addressed in accordance with the constitution.
He also said that the government will return displaced people from “West and South Tigray” to their places.
His message, which he wrote in Tigrigna language, mentioned that the place will be returned to the Tigray region in accordance with the Pretoria Agreement – an agreement that is said to have ended the two years war between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government and TPLF in November 2022.
Formally, the Pretoria Agreement is presented as the works of the African Union. However, there are rumors that the United States dictated the terms of the agreement in ways to rescue the TPLF and make it a relevant political actor in the country.
The United States State Department has issued several statements during the two years war project Wolkait areas as “Western Tigray and under illegal occupation of Amhara region special forces.”
Dr. Abraham’s message has triggered a conversation on social media platforms. Many are arguing the Pretoria agreement did not make a reference to the Wolkait or Raya issues.

The dumbest regime ever in Ethiopian history. No prior Ethiopian governments, even at their weakest moments in their history, openly and willingly exposed the Ethiopian borders from all corners to foreign aggression and attacking.
Now are there any doubts in people’s mind that the so called pm is the enemy of Ethiopia , Ethiopians and has covertly and overtly worked to undermine her territorial integrity and unassailable independence???? The beneficiaries of such an arrangement are of course Sudan and Egypt.
Nevertheless, the great thing is that this will not happen on genuine Ethiopia’s watch. The traitor in chief has to go. He was no good to begin with and now has proven to everyone not only that he is incompetent and corrupt but he is also an unpatriotic traitor to the motherland.
–Humera, Raya, and Welkayit belong to Tigray, and they have never been part of the Amhara region.

Fannos are killers, robbers, kidnappers, and brutal murderers of children, nuns, priests, and elderly people. Fannos burned churches and plundered sacred religious heritage.
–Terrorists like Andargachew Tsege, Abebe Belew, Geletaw Zeleke, Messay Mekonen, Dereje Habtewolde (Dere News), Habtamu Ayalew, and all those who share their genocidal views are genociders and should be brought to justice.
REALLY?

Well done!
May this noble action leads the Ancient Country ETHIOPIA to affirm its HISTORICAL solidarity.
May Ethiopia flourish in tandem with its dignified rich history.
As that is the way it should be
May the current motto, hence forth, be >>> FORWARD, WITH SOLID UNSHAKABLE FRATERNITY, as it had been in the long past of Ethiopian history.
AMEN –INSH-ALAH (in alphabetical order)
The areas mentioned here do not belong to either Tigray or Amhara. They are Allah gifted lands of all Ethiopians. This twisted notion and arrangements of region this and region that descended on that land of harmonious people after unbeliever commies came on the scene in 1991. They copied and pasted Stalin’s demonic sermon of ‘self determination including and up to secession’ and imposed that on those unsuspecting citizens. Again, Oromia is not the sole property of Oromos but belongs to all Ethiopians, more than 80 ethnic groups of them. Amhara is not the sole property of Amharas but belongs to all Ethiopians, more than 80 ethnic groups of them. Tigray is not the sole property of Tigres but belongs to all Ethiopians, more than 80 ethnic groups of them. So goes for every current region in that country. If some of you do not like my assertion I highly suggest to you to go out and find some pond or lake and jump into its deep end and don’t you ever think about coming up. Stay in there until your name is called up by your comrade for life Iblis.
I find it extremely astonishing when I read phrases like ‘this area belongs to this ethnic region or that region’ as if one is a foreign country. May be it has to do with the fact that most of my life from boyhood to adulthood was spent outside that country. I never got it. It never sank in. I remember during my childhood when people from Sidama, Wolaita, Gurage, Tigre and others with different ethnic backgrounds who came and settled in that small railway station in Western Haraghe where I was born and spent my formative years until boyhood. I don’t remember officials or the inhabitants asking those newcomers for any residential permit. They came there and made a living with what they could. They were daily laborers, individuals skilled in certain trades and also merchants. They came and blended with the community. They were able to call it their permanent home where they started families.
Some of my everlasting friendships have been with their children of my age group. We were never told that they were foreigners. Amharas, Somalis and a few Afars were there already and these were so well blended in the society there that they considered themselves as West Haragheans than anything else. It had to do with the fact that the country during the late emperor’s time was not a police state. I heard that started to change when commies took over and started running that country in 1974. They had legislated the movement of people. You needed an official pass(passport) to move from one community to another. It has been the same since then. Now you know why I have such a contempt about commies. They had turned everything upside down and that country has not been able to flip itself back in the ‘upright’ position since then.
In the latest news Ethiopia along with Egypt and a few other countries have their applications to join the BRICS group been accepted and will be members effective January 1, 2024. What does that mean? Above all what will that mean to the citizens of that country? I don’t know. My hunch is will not mean anything substantial. It may end up being a big arms bazaar for the founders. We will see that it is not to be beyond the rebadging of the age old ‘Non-Aligned Nations’ founded by the late emperor and a few of his contemporaries in the 1950’s. When is the last time we heard about that group? Except Brazil, South Africa and India the rest of the founding nations have been nagged by the West for their gross human rights violations. They seem to be using this grouping to get back to the West. Btw, Saudi Arabia is among the new members. Is that a set up for a punchline? Go figure!!!
One of the gravest sins and mistskes of all ethiopiian leaders and regimes without exception have been to engage, and slightest reflection wi a costly internal or external conflc, where hundreds of thousands of people would perish, tens of thounds of others displaced and billions of the national meager resources is wasted and then coming back to square one as of nothing has ever happened. There is neither an iota of accountibilty , leadership ethics, shame nor rational thinking. No questions asked after all these man-made and and choice of political blunders and devastations have happened. Just liike that imagine. I was reading from foreign source the other day that Ethiopia badly needs 20 Billions of dollats of reconstruction fund for the devastation telated to the recent internal conflict — obviously begging for the westrn charities.. Are you kidding me? It is like burnig down your own house to ground and asking others and strangers to pay for you and help to rebuild it only to repeat tomortow.. I mean , both Abiy’s current regime and former Woyane regime did the same blunders wiithout thinking before they fomented an unnecessary and self-serving conflic at the expense of the poor population and their livelhoods. The pattern is repaeating its self and there is no in sight.
