Addis Ababa, Yesterday in Addis Ababa, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced that the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing an additional $319 million (over 17 billion Birr) in lifesaving humanitarian assistance for the people of Ethiopia and $12 million (646.7 million Birr) through the State Department Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) to support refugees, asylum-seekers, and people affected by conflict and drought. The Secretary also formally launched USAID’s new five-year Joint Emergency Operation (JEOP 2.0) which began in June 2022 and is targeting 8.5 million beneficiaries. This project is providing Ethiopians with U.S.-sourced emergency food assistance commodities such as cereals, pulses, and vegetable oil.

Communities across southern and southeastern Ethiopia face a potential sixth consecutive below-average rainy season from March-May 2023, which threatens to further exacerbate the suffering of millions already reeling from the effects of unprecedented drought. At the same time, the country is grappling with insecurity and recovering from the hostilities in northern Ethiopia’s Afar, Amhara, and Tigray regions. Combined, the conflict and historic drought have generated catastrophic levels of need, leaving at least 20 million people requiring humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia. Ongoing drought worsens growing food insecurity, crop and livestock losses further devastate livelihoods, and limited access to safe water creates a breeding ground for disease.

Yesterday’s announcement will allow USAID partners to provide critical aid for more than five million people across Ethiopia. This includes emergency food assistance to severely food insecure families; nutritional support to prevent and treat malnutrition among pregnant and lactating women and children under five; farming and agricultural support to prevent crop and livestock losses; urgent health treatment; clean water to prevent disease outbreaks often prevalent during drought; and support to protect women and children from a higher risk of violence as a result of this ongoing emergency. The $12 million in additional funding from PRM will help provide lifesaving assistance for the more than 888,000 refugees and asylum-seekers currently living in Ethiopia.

The United States remains the single largest humanitarian donor to Ethiopia, providing more than $1.8 billion in lifesaving assistance since fiscal year 2022, but it will not be enough to address the staggering level of needs. Even if adequate rains occur in 2023, recovery from a drought of this magnitude will take years. The United States has stepped up to meet the majority of immediate funding gaps to save lives now, but we need other donors to mobilize to reach Ethiopia’s most vulnerable communities.

  1. 1). The sooner Ethiopia ends aid-dependence, the better. Aid doesn’t eradicate poverty. ‘Aid Agencies’ are just Trojan horses to flood Ethiopia with havoc-wreaking spies.

2). Why does the US [USAID] make it look like as though it deposited the $1.8 billion in Ethiopia’s bank account & Ethiopia distributed it fairly equally to the Ethiopians in need?

3). Many countries and their ‘aid agencies’ say, “We gave Ethiopia aid worth $$$$.” We just take their words for it, don’t we? Isn’t the aid super over-inflated almost all the time?

4). Why does the ‘Ethiopian Media’ parrot the US/USAID instead of quoting US/USAID verbatim like “The US/USAID said, ‘It gave Ethiopia $1.8 billion in aid in 2022’”?

5). Many governments also fool their people with: “We have pledged $$$ to Ethiopia…” However, the money either goes back to the country’s coffer or cashed by the officials.

6). Do you remember when trucks of aid convoys were sent for TPLF [not starving Tgrayans] via Affar & Amara ignoring the starving TPLF-victim Afars & Amaras?

The above twenty-five (25) FANTASTIC words trigger EVERYTHING IN TOTALITY — i.e. if we Africans sensitive enough to pay attention– regarding the so-called international aids to our beloved ever lasting POOR CONTINENT BLACK AFRICA..

IF what took place is an indication for the future (!!!), we Black Africans will NEVER shade-off our beggarly dependence on the powerful, heartless ‘colonial powers’. NEVER.

If in doubt, ask the best educated Africans, with the highest doctor of philosophy degrees, proudly and deservedly attained from colonial universities around the Globe. BUT, BUT, BUT …………….. Dear Reader, You know the rest.

YES, YOU GET THE CRUELEST ANSWER IN HUMAN HISTORY — whether we like it or not.
YES, THAT IS WHAT WE BLACK AFRICANS TURNED OUT ARE TO BE.
YES, MAR-ODOROUS OF OUR CONTINENT KNEW VERY WELL — and still do with hateful cruelty — WHAT THEY WERE DOING — and still doing. .
    THE END

  4. Once again USA at its best!!! What are the two goons in Moscow and Beijing are doing in the meantime you may ask? The one in Moscow has been busy killing children and kidnapping those who survived his blanket bombing of residential areas in Ukraine and his comrade-in-crime from Beijing has been busy spying on underage TikTok users worldwide while stealing gold nuggets from the old country. If these two and their repugnant behavior does not leave with nothing with contempt for commies and their such later day by-products what will? Utter disdain!!!
