Ethiopia’s long-distance running legend, Haile Gebrselassie, is expanding hotel chains across the country.
One of his biggest hotels in the country is opening on the Ethiopian New Year – today is the first day of the Ethiopian New Year ( remember you would be seven years younger in Ethiopia as it is 2015).
Haile Grand Addis Ababa project cost is 1.5 billion Ethiopian birr, as disclosed by Haile himself.
It is expected to start accepting room reservations in October , 2022.
He is still working on more hotels in different parts of Ethiopia.
In an interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), he said his running carrier was inspired by legendary athletes like Abebe Bikila and Mirutse Yifter, and the inspiration for his hotel business was Bekele Molla – among the pioneers in the hotel industry in Ethiopia. He had chains of hotel businesses.
Haile Gebreselassie aims to make the hotel chain in the country up to 20. He is also in the agriculture and auto business. In agriculture, he said, he intends to pursue wheat farming with the aim to start exporting.
He has already created job opportunities for thousands of Ethiopians in different parts of the country. He also seems to be discharging corporate social responsibility.
In this interview, he announced that he is spending two million Ethiopian birr to support kids who can not afford to buy exercise books and other needed stationery.
