Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, calls on Ethiopian Diaspora to protest HR6600

As the congressman who proposed the HR 6600 is working relentlessly to get it approved in the United States Congress, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, on Tuesday called on the Ethiopian Diaspora to protest it.
He did so during a virtual meeting with Ethiopian Diaspora Community leaders and community representatives based in the United States, according to the news update from MFAE.
“HR6600 and S3199 are drafted to nullify the struggles and regress achievements of Ethiopians all over the world in protecting the sovereignty of their country,” said Mr. Demeke, as cited by MFAE.
He added that “The resolutions are designed to make the country dependent on the goodwill of others to advance its political, economic and security interests, besides severing the relationships between the Ethiopian Diaspora with the homeland.”
The United States’s special envoy to the Horn of Africa, Ambassador David Satterfield, is in the country but the Ministry did not say if he met with Mr. Demeke or the Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
Outgoing Ethiopian Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Fitsum Arega, talked about the importance of all forms of communication to reach out to senators and members of the congress to ensure that they understand that the bill, if passed, will sever relations between the two countries.
Mr. Demeke remarked the United States and Ethiopia should rather “strive to further cement their historical and longstanding ties, but Ethiopia would not accept hand twisting attempts stressing that the protection of the country’s sovereignty is non negotiable.”
The United States had been pursuing sanction regimes against Ethiopia via the security council – an attempt that was vetoed by Russia and China.
Undue pressure from the United States that is believed to be motivated by making the Tigray People’s Liberation Front politically relevant has been fiercely resisted by Ethiopians around the world.
Apart from tacitly aiding the TPLF, the United States has been attempting to put pressure on Ethiopia to sign GERD agreement with the intention to advance Egyptian interest.

The Government of Ethiopia from November 3, 2020 has been incredibly dishonest to the western partners. The US government doesn’t want to see Ethiopia collapse into chaos, but it also knows there is so much it can do. The sanctions themselves are not very harmful, considering that only 5 percent of Ethiopia’s exports are to the United States. Ethiopia continues to receive remittance from its diaspora in the United States and air travel between the two countries continues. But the habits of the current government have ensured its destruction is evitable.
I will pay any sacrifice to bring satisfaction freedom and patriotism for the innocent people.
I never contact with the gourmand and selfish politicians.The truth is always superior.

I am a member of #Amhara ethinic socio-Economic society. I agree to apply HR6600 sanctions immediately and vigorously on FDRE leaders and all politicians, security forces of different ethnics regional forces, especially TPLF, OLF and PP which are the butchers and bloody hunded groups that miss placed and makes chaotics massacres on Ethiopians especially ethnic cleansing and genocide of #Amhara, #Tigrians, #Afar, by targeting people with thier religions and ethnics group.
As one citizen who love his country, Ethiopia, the last 30 years especially 4 years in particular I disapointed and hopeless with Abiy leadership and regime that failed to protect citezens from violence and the right to live in peace and freedom.
Abiy(PM) and his collegues are not capable of lead the country in accordance of the rule law of the country and international human right laws.
I assure that the government has 100% responsible and a burden of prove for those genocides and human rights violetions.
Therefore, I am the one who support HR6600 and related international rules to be actioned on all polical parties that has no clues for human right besides the government.
In summary, Ethiopian politicians do not love thier people and country rather they are strugling for power to be dectators. So it is will be nice to make an action immediately as much as posible in any ways to stop those bloody hunded #HR6600 …

People especially, Amhara who live in Oromia region have been killed and droped in hole in groups as waste and the government even did not recognized the crisis to protect further ethnic profiling for cleansing, and unforgotable massacres of Amhara people in #Metekel, #Macadra made by Beneshangul/gumze and TPLF forces respectively. Besides Amhara people, Tigray and Afar people are under comma to be survive due to war between TPLF and PP (Prosperity Party) which made war crime againist civilians.
HR6600 and other rules should recognise and treat all human right crisis and injustices happene on people of Ethiopia in all aspects with the very tangible evidenses and reports from neutral conserned civil association and human right protection institutions and orginizations.
