Alemayehu Eshete, one of Ethiopia’s celebrated musicians, on Tuesday is laid to rest at Kidist Selassie Menbere Tsebaot in the capital Addis Ababa.
Before the funeral service at Kidist Selassie, a farewell ceremony was organized at Meskel Square where tens of thousands showed up to pay their respect to a man that has left timeless pieces of work. “Temar lije” and “Addis Ababa bete were among his most popular songs.
Addis Ababa City Mayor, Adanech Abeibie, and Federal Government Minister for Culture, Hirut Kassaw, were among the dignitaries that attended the funeral.
They both hailed his contribution and over fifty years of service for his country.
Alemayehu died last Thursday in the capital Addis Ababa at the age of 80. He is survived by seven children and six grandchildren.
