Days after perplexation with the news of the unforeseen withdrawal of the Ethiopian Defense Force from, PM Abiy Ahmed spoke to journalists on Tuesday in the capital Addis Ababa.
He said the Ethiopian Defense Force is withdrawn from Mekelle as the city is no longer a center of gravity from military point of view. “It is not a center of gravity it used to be when we enter the city about eight months ago,” he asserted.
He also said that the army was exposed to danger in cities from armed groups in civilian cloths.
Overall, what he said is that the military withdrew from Mekelle and other parts of the region on grounds of strategic decision, not because the army lost the war but due to strategic reasons.
