The Oromo and Benishangul regions of Ethiopia seem to make headlines on state media very often for taking actions against extremist groups in the region with a claim that “hundreds of anti-peace forces have been killed.”
In reality, the security situation in these regions does not seem to be making much progress. As was the case in the past, the main targets are ethnic Amahra and recently ethnic Agaw.
New reports of massacres are of both ethnic groups in Wellega, in the Oromo region, and in the Benishangul Gumuz region of Ethiopia. It happened in the last two days.
The number of victims from what is believed to be ethnic cleansing attacks is unspecified.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his deputy Demeke Mekonen are yet to speak about it yet. The pictures are graphic showing bodies of victims including children. In October of this year, PM Abiy Ahmed was said to have given directions to security forces to end violence in Benishangul Gumz region. However, there had been at least three attacks against ethnic Amhara in the region after he gave “order to stop the violence in the region.”
The federal and regional governments have been criticized for not taking the recurring massacres in both regions for what it is – a systemic ethnic cleansing of ethnic Amhara.
Systemic because it has been proved that there has been involvement of government officials in both regions that seems to have facilitated the killings. Extremist forces engaged in the recurring killings are given structural support -whether it is legal or administrative.
A few months ago, about 45 senior level government officials were either purged or arrested in the Benishangul region with the massacre of ethnic Amhara.
The National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) has issued a statement regarding the latest ethnic cleansing. For NaMA, not only is that government unable to ensure security of citizens — which is the basic duty of government — but also government authorities are providing protection for extremist forces in these regions.
Most of the killings in these regions were linked with Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) — a party that is no longer in a position coordinate following a crushing defeat by the Ethiopian Defense Force.
NaMA claims that the extremist forces in Benishangul Gumuz region (including in the government structure) have got a new form of support although the identity of the support group is not explicitly mentioned. However, it is noted that the ethnic cleansing in both regions do have a basis in ideologically ingrained hate towards ethnic Amhara, and a legal and administrative support for it.
“It is imperative for all Amhara people, Amhara regional states and Amhara political organizations to take a firm stand to reverse the attack on ethnic Amhara,” said NaMA.
As well, it called on the Federal government and Amhara regional state to take a stand against the attack in both regions and take actions. “If the government is not defending the people, Amhara people will resort to natural right to defend themselves,” it was said.

We need to investigate the underlying reason or the underlying reasons which led the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State Peace and Security Office to loose interest in carrying out their sworn duties of defending victims of ethnic-based attacks which currently is said to be spiraling into ethnic cleansing?
Benishangul Gumuz is where the eyes of the world is looking at due to the fact it is the region where GERD is being constructed. The Ethiopian Federal government needs to investigate if Egypt is bribing the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State Peace and Security Apparatus officials to not build their capacity to a level where they can defend ethnic based attacks,these Benushangul Gumuz officals might have reached a point where they lost interest to perform their duties because their duties get assigned to them by Egypt not by Ethiopia.
In the world we are living in now it is becoming more and more common for officials to accept bribes but in most parts of the world accountability exists the , almost all Federal Governments around the world do not let such treasons continue as the Ethiopian Federal government does let it continue by exercising forgiveness and patience. For example currently in USA, the city of San Francisco , California high level government officials are being punished by the Federal Government of USA for accepting bribes from foreigners compromising the national security of USA by a tiny bit. When it comes to National Security issues a tiny bit error causes the Federal Government if USA to mobilize all available resources and nip the tiny bit national security risk in the butt. Currently starting from the Mayor of San Francisco to the bottom level government officials who worked at their posts in the past or present are getting fully investigated by the Federal Government Law Enforcement Agencies of USA. Same needed to be done by the Federal Government of Ethiopia to all of the Benishangul Gumuz State government officials . We need to know who Egypt is bribing and make an example out of those who accepted bribes from Egypt because if we fail to do that there is no point in claiming GERD anymore, we should know we failed and Egypt won if we failed to find out why the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State Peace and Security office lost interest and lost the capacity to defend the victims of the ethnic based.

Let each of us try to imagine how many children get born from parents inside these illegally built residential homes each year in Addis Ababa. Soon Addis Ababa’s population will be mostly people who were born in illegally built homes. If they take risks and build homes illegally imagine how these squatters are planing to generate incomes to afford life support a family in the expensive city of Addis Ababa.
FACT : -A single man or a single woman rarely goes into building a home illegally. Most of the time newly weds who are lacking suitable home to make babies in , take such risks and build homes iillegally since they are in dire need of a home where they can make babies in. So it is safe to assume among each of these illegally built residences at least within 75% to 90% of the houses one child gets born in it within the first year the house was illegally built and another baby gets born in the same house the following year and maybe another baby gets born in the same house each year after that. Addis Ababa schools recently announced that they feed school children and provide school uniforms too. Addis Ababa city is even covering some if the expenses for the schools in Oromia so they can provide free uniforms for the school children in Oromia. If this is not demography change I don’t know what it is.
