Ethiopia to return over 1400 migrants from Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia announced on Monday that it has finalized preparations to repatriate 1440 Ethiopian Migrants from Saudi Arabia. 

Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporate (EBC) cited consular affairs director of the Ministry Mesfin Gebremariam who said that the migrants will return home between September 14, 2020 to October 6, 2020.

300 of them will arrive in Addis Ababa this coming Wednesday, and on Thursday another 132 migrants will arrive home, according to the ministry.

The Ethiopian Migrants returning home are those who reportedly entered Saudi Arabia illegally via the Red Sea route, and had been in prison and illegal migrants detention centers.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the government of Saudi Arabia,the Ethiopian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia  worked together to return the migrants home, as reported by EBC. 

 Furthermore,132 Ethiopians affected by the blast in Beirut (Lebanon) are expected to arrive home this Thursday too. 

Last week, about 147 Ethiopians returned home from the country.
