Rita Pankhurst is laid to rest on Tuesday at Kidist Selassie Menbere Tsebaot Church in Ethiopia’s Capital Addis Ababa. She was the wife of Richard Pankhurst, prominent historian and researcher on Ethiopia who passed away in 2017.
Members of the Diplomatic Community and State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Minister, Hirut Zemene, attended the funeral.
She passed away on Thursday May 30 at the age of 92 in the capital Addis Ababa. She co-authored “Ethiopian Reminiscences” – an autobiography of herself and her husband Richart Pankhurst .
During Imperial government of Ethiopia, Rita served as a librarian at Haileselassie University.
