As Sudan is figuring out ways to restore normalcy following overthrow of its long time leader, Omar Hassan Al-Bahsir, Eritrea sent the country’s top diplomats to Sudan.
Eritrea’s Minister of Information, Yemane G. Meskel, disclosed on his twitter page on Sunday that his country sent Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Yemane Ghebreab to Sudan.
Mr. Yemane added that the delegation already met with President of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan, General Abdulfetah Alburhan, in Khartoum on Sunday.
Eritrean president Isayas Afeworki conveyed, through the delegates, his country’s “solidarity with the people of Sudan and their institutions as they move towards peace, stability and development,” and that Eritrea has confidence “in the ability of the Sudanese people to find solutions to their own issues.”
The delegation also met with Deputy President of Transitional Military Council (TMC) and Eritrea’s Minister of Information cited the later as saying “that current visit of the delegation signifies the end of a chapter and the beginning of a promising one in bilateral ties between Eritrea & the Sudan”
It is to be remembered that Eritrea and Sudan had problems towards the end of Omar Hassan Al-Bahsir’s administration which went to the extent of closing borders with Eritrea.
