Ethiopia and Sudan signed an agreement to work together on border security.
The agreement came after a meeting between Ethiopian Defense chief of staff, Seare Mekonnen, and his Sudanese counterpart, General Abdul Mawurif.
One of the key points of the agreement, based on EBC report which cited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, to control human trafficking and illegal firearms circulation in the border regions between the two countries.
In that regard, a protocol agreement is signed to coordinate works in the border region and to deploy troops, from both countries, in the border region.
EBC’s report also added that military experts from both countries are to meet in Gedarif to discuss details of joint-force deployment in the border region.
The military leaders also met with Sudanese president, Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, in the Sudanese capital.
Seizure of illegal firearms in different parts of Ethiopia has been making headlines in state and affiliated media outlets, and Sudan is believed to the origin of illegal arms flow to its eastern neighbor.
