7 Ethiopian Opposition Parties have reached agreement on Wednesday to form a common Front.

Four of these of these opposition parties are Ethiopian Nationalist Parties, and they used to have a considerable support base, while others are ethnic based ones.

All Ethiopian Unity Organization (AEUO), Ethiopian People Revolutionary Party (EPRP), Ethiopian Democratic Union (EDU),Ethiopian National Unity (ENU), Afar People’s Fithawii (APF), Afar People’s Freedom Party (APFP) and Oromo People’s Justice Party (OPFP) are the parties that formed the coalition, according to state media ENA report on yesterday.

The parties believe that the coalition could play a role in ensuring continuity of political reform measure that is underway, peace and rule of law, free and fair election and build institutionalized democratic system.

Political parties were compelled to go their separate ways due to the political influence in recent past, leaders of the parties said during the signing ceremony yesterday.

The objective of the coalition, as the leaders put it, is to make a United Ethiopia based on diversity and equality a reality, and they have called on other political parties interested in working together to join the coalition.

Currently, there are 24 national and 42 ethnic based parties that are legally registered with National Election Board of Ethiopia.
