A solemn commemoration of the 82nd anniversary of Yekatit 12 took place today in the morning at the memorial statue in Siddist Killo area, Addis Ababa.

It is a commemoration of the massacre of more than 30,000 Ethiopians in the capital Addis Ababa in a span of three days in during Fascist Italy’s occupation of Ethiopia in 1937.

Italian military General, Graziani, ordered the massacre after he was attacked by two young Ethiopian patriots, Moges Asgedom and Abraham Deboch.

They threw hand grenades as he was making speech near where the memorial statue is standing in the heart of Siddist Kilo, near the main campus of Addis Ababa University.

General Graziani and several fascist Italian authorities who were in attendance when he was making speech were wounded.

The Martyr’s statue near Siddist Killo was erected to commemorate the killings of more than 30,000 Addis Abebans in three days.

Imperial Government of Haileselassie decided Yekatit 12 be commemoration day of the martyrs following the defeat of Fascist Italy.

Ethiopia lost about 1,000,000 people during the five years resistance against Italian occupation between the years 1935 and 1941.

    Eritreans have been and are everywhere to defend Ethiopia but what we got is always vilification adn demonisation hope the peace agreement lasts generations to come!!

    That is not true the Eritrean never defended Ethiopia or fought for Ethiopia actually they fought against Ethiopia being with Italian.
