At least 34 students are hurt following violence at Assosa University in Benshangul Regional State, Western Ethiopia. And most of the cases are not life threatening, according to state media Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation.
The conditions of five of the victims is serious and are in hospital in the city.
The violence started as a fight between two students and was then escalated to a point where it obstructed classes in the University.
Security forces and members of Ethiopian Defense Force were deployed to Assosa to control the escalating situation which apparently took a form of ethnic-based violence.
The University’s president Haimanot Disasa told FBC, as cited by EBC, that the tension is eased now and the university is engaging the student community to identify those who instigated it.
