Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a phone conversation with his Ethiopian counter part Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed yesterday.
Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), state media, cited the office of the prime minister to report that the two leaders discussed bilateral issues.
The Canadian Prime Minister also expressed interest to fully work with Ethiopia, added the source.
On October 26, Justin Trudeau twitted to congratulate Ethiopia’s first female president, Sahle-Work Zewde, and hail Ethiopia’s gender balance Cabinet, which is unprecedented in the continent of Africa. Weeks later, Rwanda took similar measure and introduced one too.
Ethiopia has joined a growing list of countries with gender-balanced cabinets. And this week, the country’s Parliament appointed its first female president. Congratulations to @SahleWorkZewde on the milestone. We look forward to continuing to work with Ethiopia’s government.

Trudeau reiterated his admiration of the gender balance cabinet during his phone conversation yesterday, according to EBC.
As well, he reportedly expressed admiration for the role that Ethiopia is playing in the continent following what he called change in Ethiopia, and that he intends to visit the country, added the report.
It is not, however, clear if Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is invited to visit Canada.
Last week, he visited France and Germany with invitations from leaders of these countries, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel respectively.
