Kifle Horo (Engr) is appointed as chief project manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporate reports today.
Following the death Simegnewu Bekele, the former head, Kifle, was serving as acting manager of the project for two months.
Abraham Belay (PhD), a chief executive officer of Ethiopian Electric Power has also appointed Efrem Woldekidan (Engr.) and Fikadu Kebede as deputy project managers. The appointment will be effective from today October 03, 2019.
The government has given special attention to the construction of the project, rearranging the structural system of the management is also part of the process, Fana cited the statement sent from the corporation.
Simegnew Bekele (Engr.), the former manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), has been found dead in his car at Meskel Square, Addis Ababa, in the mornings of July 26, 2018.
After months of investigations, police announced that Simegnew Bekele killed himself.
“The conclusion of all investigations has indicated that Engineer Simegnew Bekele was not attacked by somebody else; rather he committed suicide.” Zeyinu Jemal Federal Police Commissioner said in a joint press conference.
The GERD project now believed to have reached 65 pc completion is contracted by Salini – Impregilo, Italian construction company, whereas its electro-mechanical works, is under the military Industrial Complex_ Metal and Engineering Corporation (MeTEC).
One month ago, Fana broadcasting and Walta television aired a documentary programme on the progress of the dam and confirmed that there is a significant delay in the construction of MeTEC’s part.
