Ethiopian Football Federation has picked Abraham Mebratu as the new coach of the Ethiopian National Team, Waliya, reported Soccer Ethiopia.
The 73 years old Federation picked Abraham from among five shortlisted candidates as per the source. Wubetu Abate (Hawassa city coach), Gebremedhin Haile (Jimma Ababa Jifar Coach and also used to be Ethiopian national player), Seyoum Kebede (Mekelacheya Coach) and Tsegaye Kidanemariam (Wolwalo Adigrat University) were among the contenders for the position.
The new coach has experience in training a national team.
According to Soccer Ethiopia, Abraham trained the Yemeni National team, under difficult circumstances due to the war, which qualified for Asian Cup which will take place in United Arab Emirates in 2019.
He has also experience in coaching the Ethiopian team; he trained Wonji Sugar and Gumruk.
The Ethiopian Football Federation is to pay Abraham Mebratu a monthly salary of 126,000 Ethiopian Birr in addition to benefits.
The last Ethiopian National Team coach, Ashenafi Bekele, resigned in December 2017 and the team was without a coach since then.
