Ethiopia’s popular singer Tewodros Kassahun ( his fans call him Teddy Afro) is honored by the City of Winnipeg.
The city awarded him “Star of the generation award”
In a facebook update, the singer expressed his excitement for receiving award from the City of Winnipeg and thanked the mayor of the city and residents of Winnipeg.
It is reported that the award is given in recognition work that promotes unity, peace and love.
Tewodros is known for his powerful music on themes ranging from unity to love and justice. His saying “love wins” is commonly used by his generation.
But not everyone is appreciative of his effort. Politically charged critics both from supporters of the ruling party and opposition ethnic politic radicals who seem to reject the idea of unity as a value to be pursued are vocal critics of Teddy Afro. These parties even collaborated to the extent of sabotaging his concert contract with the giant coca-cola.
At some point in time, Tewodros Kassahun was even through to prison with tramped up charges.
Teddy Afro’s fans seem to be as excited as Teddy himself, if not more, for the award the received from the city of Winnipeg.
Teddy Afro writes and composed his own songs.
