Toronto – Bethlehem Lemma, a 24-year-old Ethiopian woman is reportedly missing in Seattle since May 27, 2024. Social Media reports from Ethio-American Development Council (EADC) says she was last seen on May 27 with a man on a boat on Lake Washington.

It looks like Seattle Police responded to an emergency call on the same day. On May 27, the Seattle Police Department tweeted on X (formerly twitter) :

“Seattle Police Harbor Patrol units are leading a search and rescue operation in Lake Washington near Pritchard Island Beach. More information to follow.”  However, there was no follow-up update on the social media page of the Seattle Police Department.

However, other sources report that there had been a search and rescue operation.

News from Kiro 7, published on May 29, indicates that there was a search operation in connection with a 24 years old mission woman. The name was undisclosed.

“At around 10 p.m. on Monday, May 27, Seattle police responded to multiple 911 calls that a 24-year-old woman had fallen off of a boat into Lake Washington, northeast of Pritchard Island Beach,” said the source.

There was also a reported multi-agency search and rescue operation under the Seattle Harbor Patrol.

Citizen has published detailed information about the rescue operation. It is available here

“The boat operator, a 46-year-old man, was placed under arrest for boating while intoxicated and booked into King County Jail,” it was reported.

There does not seem to be any update from the police department since then.

The story of Bethlehem Lemma is being widely shared on social media among the Ethiopian community.  She is described as 5’8” and 24 years old.

  1. Lets hope and pray that our daughter/sister will be found alive and safe. Since has been almost a month since she was seen alive and falling off the boat on the lake, the odds are diminishing by the day to find her alive. But I believe in miracles. I hope her fate will not be similar to that of Natalie Wood back in 1981.
