Rebel Forces Attacked Selected Targets In The Regional Capital, Bahir Dar

Bahir Dar _ Fano attack - Ethiopian News

Toronto – Fano forces have reportedly launched what is said to be a “strong” attack on selected targets in Bahir Dar, seat of the Amhara Regional State, on Tuesday evening.

Anchor Media, U.S. -based Ethiopian News outlet with sources from the Amhara region of Ethiopia – spoke to Fano Mulusew, the Public relations head of Gojjam Fano Command First Division.

According to the source, military targets – including camps for government forces – were attacked in Abay Mado, Diaspora Neighborhood, Seventh Police Division and Ashrat localities of the city.

Mulusew, who spoke to Anchor Media, made claims that Fano has killed many government forces in the city but the number of casualties including from the Fano side is unspecified.

The rebel forces say that particular attack was designed to weaken government forces in the city and demonstrate that they have forces to enter the city whenever needed.  They vow that the next targets will be institutions relevant to government propaganda works.

The regional administration has not remarked on the latest attack in Bahir Dar. On Wednesday, it said that it is ready to negotiate with any group.

This past week, there have been reports that the road between Bahir Dar and Gondar has been closed by Fano forces.

Last month, the Defense Force reportedly deployed more than 90,000 forces to finish Fano forces by the end of May. For a few weeks, Fano forces have been fighting a defense battle to foil government forces’ effort to encircle them in many parts of the Amhara region. As it turns out, based on sources close to Fano, government forces suffered heavy losses in South Gondar, Gojjam, Shewa and Northern parts of Wollo.

New video footage circulating on social media purportedly shows newly captured defense force commando forces.

The Ethiopian Defense Force has been making claims that Fano forces are significantly weakened and that the “remaining united would be annihilated unless they surrender.’ However, reports from multiple sources do not seem to suggest Fano forces are rather gaining momentum.

Apart from reversing the latest government forces campaign, the Fano forces have been training new forces in different parts of the Amhara region. Extrajudicial killings in the region (the latest known case was in Jiga, Gojam) and drone attacks on civilian targets is said to have contributed to Fano forces gaining more support in the region.

  1. Unlike Eritrea, the other regional power Tigray is not involved but closely following the war between the Amhara forces and Oromo dominated government army.. Tigray`s position must be direct intervention if the Amhara forces cross the redline ( invade Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people) .Tigrayan involvement at the moment is limited to military advisers who are advising the government army.
