Ethiopian PM says TPLF is preparing for war ; consequence will be worse than the last war

Toronto – In a “discussion” with “community representatives” from Tigray which was held this week in the capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed alleged that there is still preparation for war in the Tigray region. He was making a reference to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

He was making similar allegations against the Ethiopian Orthodox Church earlier in the week during a “discussion” with church leaders when he said that “monasteries in the vicinity of Addis Ababa are training armies.” Last year, his government said it has a security concern as groups from the Amhara region are attempting to enter the capital Addis Ababa “to overthrow the government.”  Residents barred from entering Addis Ababa.

The TPLF has not yet responded to the Prime Minister’s allegation. The PM and TPLF leaders met in the capital Addis Ababa about two weeks ago to evaluate the progress of the implementation of the Pretoria agreement.

The representatives – who hailed development projects in the capital Addis Ababa – asked Abiy Ahmed to expedite the return of displaced people from the areas the Tigray regional state calls “Western Tigray ” – Wolkait. They also asked for the withdrawal of Eritrean troops from the Tigray region. The Eritrean government has been saying that it does not have troops in Tigray except in the Badme area.
