“I wish to propose the inclusion of Amharic as one of the official languages of the African Union,” Atske Selassie said in his first speech, as Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, at the 44th Executive Council of the African Union in Addis Ababa.

Amharic is one of the ancient languages in Africa with its alphabets and is widely spoken in Ethiopia – one of the most populous countries in Africa with 120 million people.

Currently, the language is the working language of the Ethiopian government.

A Chinese news source quoted Taye Aske Selassie as saying “Adopting Amharic as one of the official languages of the union would honor Africa’s linguistic diversity and boost our collective identity as Africans.”

Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili are the working languages of the African Union.

Nigerien movie star, Rahmatou Keita, has been campaigning to make Amharic one of the working languages of the African Union since 2017.

This year’s theme of the African Union summit is: “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.”

  1. Everybody, be silent! The Dinegde incarnate speaks! For that gem of the colored sake, he finds himself beholding to us all!!! What a speech! What a masterpiece! In your face, bigots!!!!

  2. Okay bigots!!! The president of Somalia, H.E. Brother Hassan Sheikh Mohammed is in Addis/Finfine and was given a warm cordial reception by that fire spitting patriot Brother H.E. Ahmed Shide upon arrival. I expect you to tell me that his trip is to attend the AU meeting currently in session there. He could have sent his deputy instead but he chose not to. I’m sure the brother understands his neighbor’s legitimate need for an outlet for its inevitably growing economy. Welcome brother!!!

For now, you bigots, commies, hired cadres and traitors paid up by a foreign good-for-nothing can go to your nearby down town and throw yourself down from the highest tower you can find! That would be good riddance!!!!
