Toronto – Eritrea’s Ministry of Information on Monday disclosed that Foreign Ministry summoned  British charge d’affaires  Asmara. It is in connection with “continued & false accusations against Eritrea” on matters related to alleged territorial occupation.

Yemane Gebremeskel, Minister for Information, shared a message on his X page (formerly Twitter).

“British Charge d’Affaires in Asmara summoned by Foreign Ministry again for stern message against continued & false accusations against Eritrea. Whitehall had for years endorsed TPLF occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories in breach of EEBC Award; appears to dwell on same tdy”

This is for the second time Eritrea has summoned a British diplomat in less than a year. Eritrea’s Director of General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  In August 2023 summoned British Charge d’Affaires in Asmara over  Darren Welch’s, the British Ambassador to Ethiopia, remarks made during a visit to Mekelle.

Eritrea was involved during the two-year war between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) war after a rocket TPLF fired hit Asmara.

The TPLF has been accusing Eritrea of “occupying territories in the Tigray region.” Eritrea denies it and sees TPLF’s position as Irridentist claim.

  1. Why this story is reported on this website? Is this an Eritrean website as rumors allege these days? If it is truly a website founded and edited by Ethiopians it has no business to meddle into the internal affairs of any one of the neighboring countries including Eritrea. Eritrea is a UN recognized and seated sovereign country and its internal affairs should be left to its own citizens. The same rule applies to Eritrean too. The should never stick their noses in the internal affairs of Ethiopia. So what is going on in here?
