ADDIS ABABA – (BORKENA) – Ethio Telecom says it is not concerned about the alleged loss of money incurred due to the internet outage, sources said.
The company said that the said amount of money it allegedly lost due to internet outages following the conflicts occured in different parts of the country was not a correct figure, Ethio-FM 107.8 Radio reported here yesterday.
It is to be recalled that an international institute issued a report saying that the company suffered a loss of 1.5 billion dollars due to the disruption of the Internet services.
The CEO of the company, Firehiwot Tamiru, said that although there is a decrease in income due to the interruption of the Internet, the company has never lost this stated amount of money.
“The published report does not concern us,” the CEO explained, adding that the revenue would decrease due to closed networks, but not that much money would be lost as stated.
When the institute issued this report, it would be appropriate to calculate the associated damage caused by the internet shutdown to the country’s economy, but the company did not directly lose that much money, Firehiwot stressed.
She said that the company does not accept the report issued at the international level, according to the report of Ethio-FM 107.8 Radio.
