ADDIS ABABA – (BORKENA) – The Ethiopian Federal Police announced that it is making an effort to register firearms in local areas with security problems.
According to sources, illegal arms trafficking has become a serious problem for the country since the escalation of conflicts and wars, Ahadu FM 94.3 Radio reported here yesterday.
Head of Public Relations and Media Sector of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Jeilan Abdi said that many works are being done at the national level to solve the security problem.
Jeilan said that the registration process would be done voluntarily. The person who possesses the device must be aware of the obligation to have it registered and use it legally, according to the official. The directives will legally be enforceable making the control process successful.
Following the conflicts in different parts of the country, many illegal weapons have been found in the hands of individuals, according to Head of public Relations and Media Sector of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Jeilan Abdi.
Meanwhile, sources said that people who were discovered to have guns during searches conducted a few weeks back in their houses around residential quarters located in areas specially known as ferensai, abbo, Janmeda, kebena of Yeka Sub City of Addis Ababa were sent to prison.
