Addis Ababa, April 28, 2022 – Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, Chargé d’Affaires, visited U.S.-supported drought relief sites in Gode, Somali Region.  During her trip, she met with Somali Regional President Mustafe Mohoumed Omer, spoke with humanitarian partners, visited internally displaced Ethiopians at Higlo IPD Camp, and witnessed U.S.-funded humanitarian assistance efforts to combat the ongoing effects of the historic drought.

Ambassador Jacobson spoke with Regional President Mustafe and pledged continued U.S. support for Ethiopians in every region affected by the drought—including the Somali region.  As the largest donor of drought-related humanitarian aid in Ethiopia, the U.S. has provided over $110 million, including sustenance for 3.6 million people.

Ambassador Jacobson called on additional donors and the federal Government of Ethiopia to step-up funding, which the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says is needed by June 2022, to close the nearly $275 million gap and to prevent further loss of life.

At the Higlo camp for internally displaced people (IDP), Ambassador Jacobson witnessed life-saving humanitarian work in action and spoke with community members and representatives from the camp about their needs.  Ambassador Jacobson engaged elders, pregnant women, and new mothers receiving emergency nutritional food and reiterated the United States’ commitment to all Ethiopians affected by the drought.  Disaster Risk Management officials from the Shebelle Zone of Ethiopia’s Somali Region shared perspectives on how United States’ funding can be spent as effectively as possible.

Ambassador Jacobson visited a World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Gode that receives funding from the American people and serves a total of 910 distribution points to provide one million Ethiopians emergency food items, including cereals, grain, and vegetable oil.  At Gode Hospital, the main treatment center for children suffering from acute malnutrition in the surrounding region, Ambassador Jacobson handed over a new shipment of emergency nutritious food for children.  The U.S. is also proud to fund lifesaving nutrition screening and treatment for over 343,000 vulnerable women and children across all drought-affected regions.

The American people’s support for all Ethiopians affected by the drought is a reflection of the U.S. and Ethiopia’s shared values and longstanding partnership.

  1. In the middle of all this senseless bloodshed coupled with calamities caused by nature(drought), Good Ole USA is busy doling out hundreds of millions dollars in desperately needed aids destined to the beleaguered. Its Chargés D’affaires Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson was in the regions hard hit by violence and drought consoling the bereaved and the suffering. Then this begs us all to question where are those two self acclaimed ‘superpowers, those two neighborhood bullies from Moscow and Beijing? No, no they are not sending wheat, rice and hard currencies to help those desperate people. No sir! They have been sending proven tools of death and destruction. Debre and his murderous rogues would be very proud to brandish Russian invented and Chinese/Egyptian knockoff AK-47’s in your face. Debre’s self anointed beast of burden(Hee Haw!!!) in some joints in my own Oromia would be exited to bust a move for you dangling his AK-47’s. Those good old days of bolt action guns in the hands of Itu clans are gone and replaced by super efficient AK-47’s. The country is awash with these not M-16’s. After all this goodwill and boundless generosity it is all thankless. I am not surprised. Since the middle 1960’s and particularly 1974, decency seems to be too hard to come by from that country. It has become a country where blaming others for its own folly. Even this savage act that took place in the supposedly most civilized city is being blamed both the inept officials and others on outsiders when in reality it was its own stray eyal-al-souqs who committed it. And this is not funny, okay! That Allah Blessed country does not need inter faith conflict. It has its hand full with inter ethnic conflict already. This is the occasion when we should all stand together and tell those stray dogs ‘how dare you?’ This is a crime that deserves a fast tracked justice in a court of law. This is something I have been saying all along. Those Wahhabi demons with deep pockets have been standing at the gate salivating and itching to go in. What better tool can they get better than this savagery from the historic city of Gondar? This is when I feel totally helpless. This incidence has a hard and sharp bolo punch in the stomach. I thought I will never live long enough to hear such demonic act! O Almighty Our Creator! Most Gracious, Most Merciful to Those Who Have Mercy For Others, Save That Blessed Country!!!

  2. Folks! Get a load of this! I have a live one for you! You have heard the disaster our South African brothers and sisters in the Durban area endured recently. Deadly flood has killed hundreds and many people left homeless. This is the time they need everyone’s sympathy and helping hands. Then there comes the master of disgrace from Beijing. Xi was so excited to donate a check with $60,000 in US dollars written all over it. That was an insult like poking a sharp stick in someone’s wound. Guess how our very proud South African brothers and sisters reacted to this derogatory handout. They told Xi to stick if up his commie tail! I bet you if those Durban folks ask that bully for his knock-off AK47’s he would be happy to send them boatloads worth 600 million in US dollars!!! Remember bully Xi is sitting on an economy with a GDP IN upwards of 14.5 trillion in US dollars. Let me tell you his donation in South African currency if that sounds better for you. The check was for 1 million Rand!
