The 10 planned conference on Post TPLF Ethiopia seems to have divided Vision Ethiopia leadership
December 21, 2020
There seem to be an apparent difference within the leaders of Vision Ethiopia, a nonprofit organization incorporated in Washington, which was established about five years ago.
On December 18, borkena received event information from Vision Ethiopia (an email account from vision Ethiopia) with a request to publish it. It was about a 10th planned conference entitled “Post-TPLF Ethiopia: The Path Forward” – and was published in the Events category.
As it turns out, there seems to be a division within Vision Ethiopia regarding the event. On Monday this week, borkena received an email from Dr. Ashenafi Gossaye who was among the initial Directors of Vision Ethiopia. The email that was copied to several other Ethiopian publishers said “I’m writing to kindly inform you that the so-called Vision Ethiopia 10th Conference is not initiated and approved by the Board of Directors of Vision Ethiopia…”
Another email we received on December 21, in the afternoon, which bears the signature of the president, Dr. Getachew Begashaw, stated that “certain members of the board have taken political positions that are diametrically opposed to, and poised to utterly compromise, the independence and nonpartisan principles of the organizations.”
Among positions that are said to be political, according to email signed by the president, are : 1) Denial of the widely reported, and still continuing genocidal violence against Amharas, Orthodox Christians and other minority groups in the Oromia, Metekel and other regions of the country 2) Refusal to denounce the criminal actions of the TPLF or to support the ongoing campaign by the Government of Ethiopia to enforce law and order in the Tigray region. Furthermore, it claimed that a new board of directors is reconstituted.
The statement by Dr. Ashenafi and four other board members of Vision Ethiopia claims that the planned Conference is in violation of the bylaws of Vision Ethiopia.
In the interest of informing readers about both sides of the stories, communiqués from both sides, and the bylaws of Vision Ethiopia is linked below.
borkena sincerely hopes that Vision Ethiopia with resolve the difference within the leadership.
