Washington D.C., December 5, 2019  – Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs Pete Marocco and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Minister of Defense Lemma Megerssa co-chaired the 9th annual U.S.-Ethiopia Bilateral Defense Committee in Washington, District of Columbia, Dec. 4.

During the visit, the United States and Ethiopia shared views on regional security, peacekeeping, intelligence and military relations, with the goal of strengthening their security partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to the U.S-Ethiopia bilateral relationship and highlighted the significant increase in security cooperation between the two countries over the last 18 months.

The Ethiopian delegation also met with Performing the Duties of Deputy Under Secretary of Defense James Anderson and the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Joseph Kernan.  Anderson thanked Ethiopia for their leadership and military contributions throughout the region and commended Lemma for the ongoing security sector reforms Ethiopia is undertaking.

U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Michael Raynor expressed gratitude to the Ethiopian government and the Ethiopian National Defense Force for their participation, continued close partnership and commitment to future collaboration.

The Bilateral Defense Committee enables the United States and Ethiopia to identify new opportunities for bilateral collaboration in areas such as counterterrorism and intelligence, which enhances an already robust partnership between the two countries, and helps bring peace and security to East Africa.

  2. Most diasporas came to USA because we won the DV lottery. We work hard in USA save our money and go visit Ethiopia be it every year or every ten years , it is known that when we go to Ethiopia a lot of money is expected from us to give to our family, to our friends , to our relatives and so on, this expectation is why we are not United as one being diasporas in USA but we rather work day and night living a life full of work and sleep (SLEEPING GIANT) barely having time for anything else, we don’t even vote or know the names of our local political representatives in USA.

Then we take our saved money physically back to Ethiopia where we personally receive the gratitude firsthand, noway we miss out on getting the gratitudes firsthand in person, We want to be treated as royalty and showered with praises throughout our visits, being the main reason why we work hard in the first place to get people to praise us when we visit , by we rubbing it in their faces that we succeeded while they failed, unconsciously the misfortunes of others give us a feeing of self confidence . We judge our succeces by watching those back home who are barely surviving on their income while we on the other hand got money to spare being paid hourly. Just to get this feeling of praise and self worth first hand in person , many of us are not Willing to organize and tackle Ethiopia’s problems collectively where we reside, we rather stir clear of taking actions collectively since we fear organizing takes away from our personal gratification of being praised and admired. We are obsessed with our bondage of self. Unless we are the makers and shakers we want no part of it.

  3. When I said Ethiopia is an addiction I was referring to foreign citizenship holders diasporas who continuously meddle in Ethiopia’s internal political affairs as if they were Ethiopian citizens. These Ethiopia addicted foreign countries citizens need to break their addiction and leave the Ethiopian politics to Ethiopian citizens.

    • You come negotiate Ethiopian politics with World Bank , Pentagon , Bill Gates……. then you tell Ethiopian born diasporas to not be concerned ? You got some nerve!!

  4. The National Bank of Ethiopia has decreed a new law for diaspora Ethiopians who wish to invest their moneys in Ethiopia. According to this new law all diasporas are required to invest in foreign currencies only, diasporas who invest using birr will not be allowed to do so.
