A Lebanese businessman who reportedly “disappeared” at Bole International Airport in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, is said to have left the country.

The Associated Press cited The Lebanese Foreign Ministry to report that the businessmen who is identified as Hassan Jaber will travel to the Central African nation of Gabon before returning to his native country – Lebanon.

Hassan Jaber was apparently in custody and was released after seven days in the hands of Ethiopian security authorities.

On September 13, 2019, Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry “had summoned Ethiopia’s charge d’affaires demanding information about Jaber, whom it said was detained in Addis Ababa on Sept. 7,” as reported by The Associated Press.

Lebanon threatened to take retaliatory measures if Ethiopia is not releasing Mr. Hassan.

It is unclear as to why Ethiopia had to detain the Lebanese businessman. The Associated Press said that there had been speculations in Lebanese media that the United States or Israel might have been behind Jaber’s detention in Ethiopia.
