A day after Kenya’s Standard Media reported about the closure of two feeder roads to and from Kenya in connection with a measure to control the proliferation of illicit trade in the region, Ethiopia is dismissing it as wrong information.

The news of road closure was also circulating on social media, twitter, and facebook. Ethiopian government authorities, however, dismiss that there is no border or road closure between the two countries, whatsoever.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya and Mauritius, Meles Alem, told state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC)   that the news of Moyale (border town between Ethiopia and Kenya) road is baseless.

According to the report by Standard Media, as many as 30 to 50 trucks transport illegal goods, including firearms, to Ethiopia. And the feeder roads have been useful for those who have been evading taxes.
