The government of Qatar is poised to build a hospital for kidney treatment in the capital Addis Ababa, state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) reported on Thursday.

The project cost is said to be US$18 million dollars.

The report added that Director for Middle Eastern Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Tebeje Berhe, led a delegation to Qatar to hold talks with Qatari Development Fund project head regarding Kidney hospital to be constructed.

Dr. Senayit Beyene (Ministry of Health advisor on special projects), Dr. Addisu Melke (Kidney specialist at Tikur Anbessa Hospital) and Ambassador Samia Zakaria (Ethiopian Ambassador to Qatar) were part of the delegation that was tasked to hold a discussion on the Kidney hospital project.

According to FBC, the delegates discussed details of how the government of Qatar could start the project within the shortest possible time.

And an agreement has been reached to launch the project immediately.

Apart from the construction of a building for the hospital, the Qatari government will fund training for professionals – which is still within a project cost of U.S. $18 million.

In a related development, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met and held talks with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, on Monday this week – according to Ethiopian News Agency.

They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the Kidney treatment hospital in Addis Ababa. Qatar has an interest in hotel and tourism, and sugar production investment in Ethiopia.
