In less than six months, Dire Dawa – one of Ethiopia’s chartered cities located in the southeastern part of the country – appointed a new mayor.

Ahmed Buhen is the new acting mayor, according to a report by state-affiliated media, Fana Broadcasting Corporate citing Dire Dawa City Administration Mayor’s office.

He will be replacing Mehadi Giren who was appointed to the position only in March of this year.

It was after the city administration called an emergency meeting that accepted the resignation of Mehadi Giren.

As well, the city administration accepted the resignation of speaker of the council Abdella Ahmed and appointed Fatume Mustafa for the position.

It is unclear as to why the Mayor and Speaker of the Council had to resign in less than six months.
