Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan Let. Gen.Mohammed Hamdan Daglo arrived in Eritrea and held talks with President Isayas Afeworki on Tuesday, according to information from Eritrea’s Ministry of Information.

This is a second visit by the Transitional Military Council of Sudan in less than three weeks. In mid-June of this year, Chairman of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) of Sudan, Let. Gen. Abdul-Fattah, visited Eritrea and had held discussions with the Eritrean leader.

Sudan Tribune reported that bilateral issues, including the progress of the relationship between the two countries, were discussed and an agreement has been reached reopen the border between the two countries which was closed under President Omar Hassan Al-bahir’s presidency sometime in 2018 on alleged grounds of controlling cross-border illegal firearms trade.

The two sides have also agreed to establish a joint committee, “to chart out the modalities and monitor the implementation of the agreement,” as reported by Sudan Tribune.

Apart from the border issue, President Isaias Afeworki reiterated Eritrea’s commitment for  “the smooth and peaceful consummation of the transition process…”

As well, Isaias Afeworki underscored the responsibility of the Transitional Military Council for the peaceful transition.
