The former commander of the South Eastern Division of the Ethiopian Defense Force, General Abraha Woldemariam (he is also known as Quarter among his TPLF friends) reportedly passed away in Thailand where he traveled to for medication a few months ago, BBC Amharic service reported.
He was one of the few Generals appointed during Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegne
After Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took over from Hailemariam Desalenge, General Abraha was made to retire.
Seemingly, he was last seen in public in February 2019 when Tigray People’s Liberation Front former combatants had a reunion in Mekelle on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the ethnic Tigray party which is governing Tigray region of Ethiopia.
In the past, there had been accusations against General Abraha in connection with egregious human rights violations in the Ethiopian Somali region where he was commanding his division of the Ethiopian defense force. Critics in the opposition claimed in the past that he was a close ally of former Somali region president Abdi Iley, who is currently in prison in connection with killings and displacement in the region in August 2018.
Before starting his career in the Ethiopian Military after the collapse of Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam’s government in 1991, Abraha Woldemariam was a member of TPLF guerrilla group.
Details of the funeral arrangement is unavailable yet. But it is likely that he will get regional level state funeral in Tigray.

He was a very educated brilliant person,if only TPLF have made him the Prime Minister back then instead of Zenawi , Ethiopia would have been a much better place by now.
His passing is a great loss for all of Africa.

General Abraha deserved to be charged with Crimes Against Humanity. He was an evil genocidal butcher.

General abraha weldemariam is a hero. An Intelligent honest hardworking….person He did so much for his country to make his country proud and we are proud of him he will always be missed and loved Rest In Peace ❤️
