Ethiopian security forces seized 3,300 kilograms of smuggled cannabis, Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), state-affiliated media outlet, reported on Monday.
Federal Police and Customs officers were involved in the operation to seize it in the outskirts of the capital Addis Ababa. It was being transported hidden in a freight transport vehicle.
According to the report by FBC, the driver is in custody and police is undertaking an investigation to determine where it was originated from and parties involved in the smuggling.
It has become common for Ethiopian security forces to seize smuggled cannabis. Last month, Ethiopian authorities disclosed that they seized over 40 kilograms of cocaine on its way to a third country via Ethiopia in a span of eight months.
