Somalia and Kenya reach consensus on Wednesday to resolve their difference peacefully.
The consensus came after the leaders of the two countries had a face-to-face meeting following on March 6, 2019, with the mediation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who is the chairperson the Horn of Africa regional body -Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Office disclosed on its social media page today, “…As an outcome of the discussions, both parties agreed to work together towards and peace and to take measures in addressing particular issues that escalated the tensions.”
Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi (“Farmajo”) flew to Nairobi on Tuesday from Addis Abebe, where he arrived the same day in the morning to hold discussion, reportedly on matters of regional economic integration, with Abiy Ahmed.
Kenya and Somalia were at diplomatic loggerheads starting mid February of this year over resources and territory in the Indian Ocean.
