The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) appointed Ethiopia’s Let. Gen. Tigabu Yilma as commander of AMISOM forces in Somalia.
He is replacing Lt. Gen. Jim Besigye Owoyesigire of Uganda who has been serving as Commander of the force since February 2018.
Let. Gen. Tigabu is bringing to AMISOM over thirty four years of experience in the Ethiopian Defense Force.
Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson for Somalia (SRCC),Francisco Caetano Madeira, presided over the handing in ceremony of AMISOM flag. He said the responsibility that Gen. Tigabu is taking over is a huge one and that he will meet his responsibility.
The new commander of the forces, Gen. Tigabu, on his part said that the new responsibility is a challenging one and that he will make it a success, Ethiopian state media reported citing AMISOM sources.
