German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Ethiopia yesterday for a three days official visit.
Today, he met with president Sahle-Work Zewde at the National Palace in the capital Addis Ababa.
Sahle-Work briefed her German Counter part that he is visiting Ethiopia at the right time and highlighted multifaceted reforms that Ethiopia is undertaking.
As well, she underscored that Ethiopia and Germany need to further strengthen their relations in the areas of trade and investment. A German automaker,Volkswagen, already signed memorandum of understanding to invest in Ethiopia.
President Frank-Walter on his part hailed what he called historical relation between the two countries and affirmed that Germany will continue an all rounded cooperation with Ethiopia.
He also stated that Germany supports the ongoing reform in Ethiopia, according to a report by state media – Ethiopian News Agency
As well, Mr. Steinmeier praised that women are now given the opportunity to play decisive role in the development of Ethiopia.
Peace accord between Ethiopia and Eritrea was another noteworthy development he raised and he thinks that it plays a significant role in the effort to tackle security issues in the region.
President Frank-Walter also met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed; leader of the ongoing reform up for the challenge reconciling competing interests in the country, in the latter’s office.
According to an update from the office of the Prime Minister, Abiy “appreciated the German Government’s long-term and consistent technical and vocational support to Ethiopia.”
“The three pillars of the current reforms as being grounded in individuals, ideas and institutions,” Abiy told Mr. Steinmeier.
