Ethiopia is returning about 395 Syrian refugees to where they came from. This past week Ethiopia received 560 Syrians who came to Ethiopia with visitor and transit visa.
395 Syrian refugees are being deported for being street beggars in the Ethiopian capital, according to a report by state affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC).
Ethiopian Immigration Agency deputy director, Yemane Gebremeskel, said that in the interest of Ethiopia’s security Syrians, who came to the country recently, are not allowed to engage in street begging in the capital and Federal Police instructed to enforce the regulation.
In consideration of the situation in Syria, Ethiopia government has made arrangements for those Syrians who are in the country to register with Ethiopia’s Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs to get monthly allowance and stop begging in hotels and streets in Addis Ababa, according to a report by FBC.
Ethiopia’s immigration agency seem to be suspicious about the begging activity and is reportedly studying as to why the Syrian refugees who came to Ethiopia with a visit and transit visa engaged in begging activity.
