Ethiopia declared National mourning day

The 12th regular session of Ethiopian People’s House of Representative declared today a one day national mourning to remember the late Girma Woldeghiorgis.

Accordingly, flag will be half-mast through out the country in all public institutions and Ethiopian embassies and consulates as well.

A coordinating committee is named to organize state funeral for Girma Woldeghiorgis who served as president of Ethiopia between 2001 and 2013.

He passed away on Saturday in a hospital in the capital Addis Ababa and his body is taken to his residence today.

He will be laid to rest tomorrow at Menbere Tsebaot Kiddist Selassie.

Girma was 93 and is survived by five children.

The government of Saudi Arabia and Kenya, among others, have conveyed a message of condolence to Ethiopia.
