Girma Woldeghiorgis, Ethiopian former president, passed away last night in the capital Addis Ababa at 93, his families reportedly confirmed to Ethiopian government news sources. He was born in Addis Ababa in 1924.
During emperor Haileselaile’s imperial government, he served as member of parliament.
Under the current Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) government, he has served as head of state for twelve years between 2001 and 2013. Girma is survived by five children.
Details of the funeral arrangement is not known yet but it is expected that it is going to be a state funeral, and the former president will likely be laid to rest at Kiddist Selassie Menbere Tsebaot church (Holy Trinity).
