Addis Ababa police Commission says that it has learnt that there are activities by “some individuals” for organizing a demonstration in the capital this weekend.
However, police says that the demonstration has no recognition from Addis Ababa Police Commission, reported Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation citing the public relation officer of the Commission.
While it is a constitutional right to organize a peaceful demonstration, identities of the organizers, start point and destination of the march and related issues are not known to police and that police can not guarantee to make the necessary deployment for it, added the police statement.
It went on to warn that if the organizers dare to ignore the message from the police and go ahead with the demonstration, “legal action” will be taken.
