Eritrean president Isayas Afeworki will arrive to Ethoipia for the first time in well over two decades. He is expected to get warm welcome from Ethoipians in the captial.

Eritrean president Isayas Afeworki is expected to make an official visit to Ethiopia, disclosed the office of Ethiopian prime minister. The office also called for Ethiopian to give the visiting Eritrean president a warm welcome upon his arrival in the capital, Addis Ababa.
His visit is happening just a week after Ethiopian prime minister, his foreign minister and speaker of the House of representative visited Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, last week. Residents of Asmara took to the street to receive the prime minister and his entourage.
The Eritrean president revealed his austere lifestyle when he invited the Ethiopian prime minister and his entourage for a coffee in his private residence the video of which was widely shared in social media.
“I have learned a lot from the simplicity of his lifestyle and his closeness to the people,” said the prime minister admiring the selfless life of the president and pointing out the level of corruption among many African leaders.
The Eritrean president is visiting Ethiopia at the invitation of prime minister Abiy Ahmed and he will be staying in Ethiopia for three days. He is expected to speak to Ethiopians at the Millenium Hall in the capital Addis Ababa, according to sources close to the Ethiopian government. Visit to the industrial park in Hawassa is also in the working visit schedule of the Eritrean president.
The two countries agreed to end the state of war after two decades of “no-peace-no war-relation” that was marked by sporadic skirmishes. Restoration of peace between the two countries brought about much elation on both sides of the border.
As well, an agreement has been reached in the areas of economic, political and regional security cooperation. Direct telephone line between the two countries is reestablished and Ethiopians were reportedly calling random numbers to Asmara as an expression of happiness with the new state of relation between the countries.
Ethiopian Airlines is resuming flights to Asmara as of July 18, 2018.
The Eritrean president’s visit to Addis Ababa, after well over two decades, is seen by many as a signal that the relation between the two countries is on the right track.
