In January 2018, Ethiopian Airlines announced that it is adding Chicago as the fourth destination in North America. Living up to its promises, the airlines inaugurated direct flight to Chicago on June 9,2018. The inaugural ceremony was held at VIP Salon of Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. US Ambassador to Ethiopia,H.E. Mr. Michael Raynor,members of the Diplomatic Corps and executives of Ethiopian Airlines attended the occasion.
The US Ambassador said during the ceremony :
- “Day by day we are witnessing new successes at Ethiopian Airlines. Two days back, we celebrated the 100th aircraft milestone of Ethiopian Airlines and today we are inaugurating flights to Chicago.”
Ethiopian airlines made a new milestone in African aviation history when it received delivery of its 100th aircraft which was celebrated at Bole international airport.
Ethiopian Airlines will be flying three times a week, (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) and will a stop over in Dublin, Ireland. And it is offering bonus miles for that flight until August 7,2018.
The airlines has also inaugurated a flight to Geneva.
Ethiopian Airlines is poised to benefit from e-visa to international visitors from across the word. The Ethiopian government announced the service starting June 1,2018.
Despite stellar success story in the continent, the ruling party in Ethiopia announced last week that it is planning to partially privatize the airlines in an effort to tackle foreign currency crunch in the country.
