Abiy Ahmed headed to Kenya, Ethiopia’s neighbor in the South and the host of thousands of Ethiopian refugees, for two days state visit. Last month, thousands of Ethiopians from the border town of Moyale reportedly crossed to Kenya after members of Ethiopian defense force killed civilians randomly.

Sources close to the Ethiopian government report that Abiy was invited by Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya’s president who won a controversial second term in office.

The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral and regional issues. Economic integration is among agenda item as was the case when Abiy Ahmed visited Djibouti and Sudan and hold similar discussions with the leaders of those countries this past week.

The two countries had joint infrastructure development worth millions of dollars. In 2015, Ethiopia and Kenya launched a partnership project to foster peace and sustainable development in the areas adjacent to the Ethio-Kenya border.

Abiy Ahmed has been traveling across Ethiopia and outside of Ethiopia non-stop since he took office over a month or so ago. He has already got critics and became a material for political satire.
