Grenade explosion in Ethiopia’s border town, Moyale,reportedly left four civilians dead and well over forty wounded. It happened today at the town’s bus terminal.
Citizen’s and activists report indicate that the number of deaths could rise as some of the wounds are life threatening.
Citing sources from Moyale town, US based Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) identified the four victims as Diro Geletu Nuru, Jemal Ahmed, Sheik Abdrahman and Gezani Soresa.
The report by ESAT added that there was gunfire in the town following the explosion. State media, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) did not report about the situation in Moyale at this writing.
No entity took responsibility for the attack so far.
The town of Moyale experienced crisis in recent months. Last month, government security forces opened fire on civilians and killed at least 10 residents and wounded more than 10 – an incident that shocked the town so much so that thousands of residents decided to cross the border to Kenya fearing for their lives.
Last week, the city lived ethnic tension due to intermittent conflict between Somali Ethiopians and Oromo Ethiopians.
